Two things I really hate about Microsoft today are:

Unlike Apple, Microsoft appear to have a 1-child family policy.  Check out the Windows 7 family pack.  You get three licenses (dad + mum + 1-child) compared to 5 in the Apple family pack.  And the price is horrendous compared to Apple’s family pack price!  Ok, you say, Apple’s coming new release 10.6, is just a service pack for 10.5. Really? And Win 7 is not a service pack for Vista? Yeah, right!  I think that Windows zealot Paul Thurrott makes it …

Dr. Glenn Peoples writes:
As plenty of readers will already know, New Zealanders are currently taking part in a postal referendum on the issue of whether or not a parent smacking a child under any circumstances should be a crime. I have already voted no.
In 2007 Sue Bradford of the Green Party was successful in having section 59 of the crimes act repealed and replaced with a new version. The former version provided exceptions to the law concerning assault, providing a defence. It permitted parents to use “reasonable force” in the …

ACT party leader Rodney Hide has warned Prime Minister John Key of a public backlash if the government ignores the result of the controversial smacking referendum.
Snubbing the referendum result sends a message that politicians know what’s best for the people and that the government is running a "nanny state", Hide wrote in a letter delivered to Key’s office on Friday.
The referendum question asks: "Should a smack as part of good parental correction be a criminal offence in New Zealand." The postal ballot, which is voluntary, opened on July 31 …

Dr. S. H. Watkins, Executive Director of the National Academy of Scientism, has released this astonishing photo from one of the Top Secret (but lost) Mars rovers.
The photo caused immediate controversy in the scientific community. Many researchers called for a conference to be held on Mars in order to carry out an empirical study. The National Scientism Foundation is already raising funds for the construction of a spacecraft.
Watkins, visibly hyper, struggled to maintain his composure in the news conference: "Another Mt. Rushmore was bound to turn up somewhere in the …

If you are anything like me, you may wince at the thought of trusting Google with all your personals.  Furthermore, you may shudder at the thought of America’s most liberal president having direct access to Google.  If so, then the following snippet from PCMag should scare you:
With all rational explanations shot down, there’s only one other, slightly more sinister possibility: Google has a lot of juice in the Obama administration, and they’re throwing their weight around. After all, Schmidt is one of the president’s technology advisors, and Obama’s deputy CTO …

Dear President Obama,
I note with dismay your appointment of Dr. John Holdren as Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Co-Chair of the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Although Dr. Holdren’s experience in academia and administration may be adequate, his publicly expressed views regarding population control disqualify him from holding office.
I will set aside objections to Dr. Holdren’s scientific competence. Despite his strong scientific credentials, he advanced theories in the 1970’s and 1980’s that …

Dr. Glenn Peoples responds to liberal Ian Harris.
Ian Harris tells us (“Honest to God,” Dominion Post, [Dominion Post. Saturday July 11, 2009. Page B5], reproduced at the YesVote website at http://yesvote.org.nz/2009/07/17/the-bibles-harsh-view-rejected/) that we should reject the “harsh views” on child rearing found in the Bible.

Mr Harris, unfortunately, joins many of those who promote the criminalisation of good parents by muddying the waters. He notes, for example, that someone who defends the right to use physical discipline also believes that children …

Press Release from the Society for the Promotion of Community Standards Inc.
FOUR of Steve Crow’s porn companies of which he was sole director have gone belly up. Critics of his hard-core putrid porn promotion will be crowing loudly, but creditors, including about 30 New Zealand companies, will not be. The shrivelling of his now anaemic porno empire has left him impotent he claims to recompense any of his many unsecured creditors who are owed at least $714,000. In addition his companies owe at least $323,753 to the IRD. The …

MandM have posted a link to a video of Senator Jim Demint on a Proposed Hate Crimes Amendment in the USA.  I loved this line from the speech (starting at 7 minutes and 30 seconds):
Today only actions are crimes. If we pass this legislation, opinions will become crimes. What is to stop us following the lead of European countries and American college campuses where certain speech is criminalized? Can priests, pastors, rabbis, be sure their preaching will not be prosecuted? In Canada…
