Tim Tebow, the Super Bowl Ad, and the Aftermath!
To many New Zealanders, the name Tim Tebow will be a foreign referent, although his name might get a giggle or two!
The Man of Spin is an historic and regular purveyor of American sporting culture, and so is familiar with this man’s sporting abilities, endeavors, and accomplishments… Go Gators!… Nah, not really… For all those unfamiliar with what has just verbally transpired, let me explain a little more. Tim Tebow, until very recently, as he has now graduated, was the quarterback for the University of Florida… Gators, where throughout his Collegiate career, he won the National Championship, while also winning the Heismann Trophy, this being the most significant personal accomplishment in College Football, which is the award given for the player of year!
Okay, so “big ‘wows’” you are saying… “Why are you telling me all this information for, Man of Spin? Go spin something else!”
I am getting to my point…
You see, Tim Tebow is also a committed Christian, prominent pro-life advocate, and seemingly, all round made-righteous guy… and here he is…

As you can see, he is also known for painting his face with Scripture. Here is a list of the verses he has painted on his face throughout his career (look under “Timmy Tebow” on the link)!
Let me set the table for you. I had planned to blog this for some time, but now is the time for this blog salvation!
You see, what has sparked the need for this post started with the news that Focus on the Family… you know, that right-wing “religio” organisation… that organisation was planning on buying some Super Bowl Ad air-time, where they would spew forth their hate… No?! With an understanding that Tim Tebow and his Mom were going to be involved, debate began to grow leading up to the Super Bowl, with the pressure put on CBS to tow-the-liberal-line, making main-stream conversation… such could be an understatement!
At this point, the advert was not open for public consumption, but don’t let that stop the debate… You don’t believe me… then take a look at these examples…

Take another example, read these interesting words from a pro-choice columnist, Sally Jenkins, who introduces her piece in the Washington Post, with the following words…
I’ll spit this out quick, before the armies of feminism try to gag me and strap electrodes to my forehead: Tim Tebow is one of the better things to happen to young women in some time. I realize this stance won’t endear me to the “Dwindling Organizations of Ladies in Lockstep,” otherwise known as DOLL, but I’ll try to pick up the shards of my shattered feminist credentials and go on.
As statements at Super Bowls go, I prefer the idea of Tebow’s pro-life ad to, say, Jim McMahon dropping his pants, as the former Chicago Bears quarterback once did in response to a question. We’re always harping on athletes to be more responsible and engaged in the issues of their day, and less concerned with just cashing checks. It therefore seems more than a little hypocritical to insist on it only if it means criticizing sneaker companies, and to stifle them when they take a stance that might make us uncomfortable.
I’m pro-choice, and Tebow clearly is not. But based on what I’ve heard in the past week, I’ll take his side against the group-think, elitism and condescension of the “National Organization of Fewer and Fewer Women All The Time.” For one thing, Tebow seems smarter than they do.
Tebow’s 30-second ad hasn’t even run yet, but it already has provoked “The National Organization for Women Who Only Think Like Us” to reveal something important about themselves: They aren’t actually “pro-choice” so much as they are pro-abortion. Pam Tebow has a genuine pro-choice story to tell. She got pregnant in 1987, post-Roe v. Wade, and while on a Christian mission in the Philippines, she contracted a tropical ailment. Doctors advised her the pregnancy could be dangerous, but she exercised her freedom of choice and now, 20-some years later, the outcome of that choice is her beauteous Heisman Trophy winner son, a chaste, proselytizing evangelical.

Tebow also responded to the brewing criticism…

After trying to lay down the heat on CBS in the hope that the brouhaha would do its damage, this Super Bowl Ad made the cut to game day… and for your viewing pleasure, this is what was beamed onto TV sets, throughout the Uniter of States…
Wait for it… This is gotta be controversial…

Now that was inflammatory!
However, such an idea is not allowed to be aired in the main-stream [code for liberal] of public opinion, therefore, those individuals-organisations that such a godly idea threatens, needed to fight back, even when they seem to swinging at the shadows, resulting in the following example, where the only thing that seemed to be hitting, was their block-heads!
The best example of this was the President of the National Organisation for Women [Code for National Organisation for Women who agree with our Agenda], Terry O'Neill, who was quoted by the LA Times, statting the following words...
NOW president Terry O’Neill said it glorified violence against women. “I am blown away at the celebration of the violence against women in it,” she said. “That’s what comes across to me even more strongly than the anti-abortion message. I myself am a survivor of domestic violence, and I don’t find it charming. I think CBS should be ashamed of itself.”
Say what (with a high-pitch note at the end for effect)? No-men-no-pause?
You can read more about a response to N.O.W.... HERE... with some other commentary on the feminist reaction to this ad... HERE... and even today, USA Today, is still now happy about it... HERE!
On the other hand, there has been some commentary from a Christian worldview, which you can find... HERE and HERE!
To find out some more about Tim Tebow, check out his foundation... HERE. To get some more details about the Tebow Family, in the context of the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association... Go HERE. If you would like to see more on the Tim Tebow story, see a fuller account with Bob and Pam Tebow on the Focus on the Family website... HERE!
In closing, one wonders what the naysayers of the Tebow ad, have to say about the following example?

Is the pro-choice position axiomatic and therefore, unchallengeable in the public square?
While some may cling to this belief like they cling to their... others, some might say the silent majority affirm otherwise! While such a reference in the world of ideas would lead one to reflection, in the world of the living and breathing, such a position of silence, seems more like consent!
Pray for and Support those ministries that are not staying silent, thereby doing something, as nothing equals evil, and such should never prosper

It is great that Tim Tebows mother had the choice.
Michael, what’s great is that Tim Tebows mother did not choose to terminate Tim
I’d like to see an ad on a mother saying that her life has improved from terminating her pregnancy. And see how that goes.
A bit off topic …
Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959)

“…the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth”
