Review and Competition – The Priests: Noel

20 December 2010 5 Comments

Yes, it has been some time between drinks, and no, there was no egg-nog involved!

Just in case you have been hanging out in the basement for the past few weeks, we are at the Season where Jesus is the Reason.  While this is the time of giving, we are the ones who have been on the receiving end of God’s grace from the cradle of our moment to the dawn of this very day.

Recently, thanks to the good people at Sony Music, Man of Spin was given the opportunity to both listen to some music that is reflective of this historic season, which may also have a positive impact on your existence, as there is a prize in the tail.

Without further bloviation, I would like to introduce a review followed by a competition for The Priests New Christmas Carol of a CD… Noel!

The ReviewNOEL

What do you think when you begin to hear Christmas Carols dominate the airwaves one again?

If the truth be told, one is not given this opportunity, and while we’re being honest with a seeming greater regularity, the Carols that we are hearing nowadays are becoming more glorified soft-pop rock numbers that have been massaged with a Christmas theme or reconstituted so that the words remain, while the sounds indeed change.

One can empathise with this reality as corporate worship carol times remonstrate with a sense of the Dentist, however, if you want a sense of the traditional with your Carols this Christmas time, The Priests new album, Noel, will be just the thing to put in your musical player as the traditional words meet a traditional sound, with a little hint of the divine!

In reviewing this album, the highest praise one can give is that it is a quality classical presentation in voice and in accompaniment that will be music to your ears at this season.  Yes, you will hear many of the traditional carols, such as, Away in the Manger, Joy to the World, and Silent Night, to name a few…  However, with the harmonious clarity and integration of voices, combined with the orchestral sounds that resonate quality, this will be an album that you will be happy to bring out any time of the year.

Yes, you may know these numbers like the back of a very good friend’s hand, but this is no one organ-trick pony!

Looking for a traditional Christmas album to listen to on December 25th, this is the one for you!

Thanks to Sony Music, two visitors to the blog, will be able to listen for FREE… as CNNZ has two CD’s to give-away! We will shortly get to what you need to do, but to give you a better insight into this album, we have the following

Hard to choose my favourite… but perhaps ‘Hark! the Herald Angels Sing’. I like the tune, the triumphal slant, and that it clearly states why Christ came.

Definitely O Holy Night. A very emotionally moving song, even if there is a bit of license in the story.

Actually Susan Boyle’s version of this song is really good. Normally I would prefer Third Day but their version is a bit fast for my liking.

My wife and I love holy night. You just get a warm feeling of peacefulness, snow silently blanketing the land in whiteness and childhood memories of Xmas.

Well, this is my first ever blog but my favourite carol is the little drummer boy and when I saw the video here it brought tears to my eyes.
My daughter sang this when she first started school in the big cathedral in Christchurch and she sang with such gusto it made me proud a tiny little tot in a huge space- and now she hums it all the time – and when she gets scared I get silly and sing it with naught words and she tells me off!!!!
