Hipster… Meet the World!
Who are you calling a Hipster?
Well, if the op-shop shoe fits, ignore the smell, go on, wear them! Speaking of Op-Shop, they are a pretty classy [sounding so uncouth for someone so "hip"] Kiwi act… so take a listen!
Probably very few readers will know the following tiddy, but, Man of Spin, in a past life, setup and ran a retro clothing [with the help of some of my friends] store, in days when I was young and crazy [not really, but it sounds good]. The store was named… revinyl… however, we turned the “e” backwards, to give it that “kitchy-cool” vibe… You feelin me! Yes, it was a very styley set-up, and if I ever find the prints, I will do my best to go digital, as they are old skool! We were in the throes of the 70′s style regeneration, with that period now being circumvented by the late 80′s, or at least morphing some angles and curves out of this period!

However O readers of mine, we are now in 20-10, and if not to anecdotally illuminate this for you, I had not planned to blog on this subject, even as dusk moved toward daylight in this Tusday Morn. in the Land of Kiwi, flightless bird, Land of Long White Cloud [that is just a taste from my slam poetry... HERE!] with the details in this piece of posting based on a blog that I had no “who the blue blazes” idea about [You do realise there is more than CNNZ out there in the Land of Blog... I know, who would have thought]! Yet, with the wonders of social networking, the dawn hit my daylight, with the detail of this dialog streaming live on my Twitter feed from one’s Daddy-dearest… And, speaking of Twitter feeds, Why aren’t you following me!
The reason why you should be wanting to read this fellow Christian, and any other needy individual, is that you-gotta-know-to-understand [Thanks, Supergroove], with culture not being your killer, but your context, where you are to shine like a star, a city on a Hill, making much of the One who has already made much of you! To make this a reality, the oracle may need to speak, or in this case, blog, as this is probably one context where you are not king.
In this first post, you are going to be introduced to a new sub-species lurking around the corners, parks, and malls, looking all… Hipster… And, they might just believe it. Have a read…
What the heck is a Hipster? Is it a hip-monster? A new revolution? A bad 80s pop band? And what the heck do these two guys below [they have been subverted above you] have to do with anything? And Good Lord, WHY are their glasses so huge?
Whether you like it or not, Hipsters are a part of our culture. It’s important that all of us (oldster or hipster) understand and be knowledgeable about our culture. Why is it important? Because it means when can relate to our people better. (Just FYI…that was very un-hipster of me to need to “relate” to “our people”).
Now there is an idea! If you really want to follow the example of Jesus and be in the world [but not controlled by its system], you don’t have to look hype and out dude, but you do need to be able to relate to this world’s cultural contexts in some meaningful manner, and as such, love for Christ and love for the Lost, compelling calls you to know, giving you the informed empathy to go and “DO“!

This is a really helpful post, particularly for all those people who stare at the fashion out loud, exclaiming, why do they do… THAT… and the pictures will help [I borrowed a couple to lure you in for more]. This is the first in a series on this subject by the blogger, so stay tuned to her channel, as the beats have only started. On that note, sounding all hip and hop, being too-legit-too-quit [hammer-time], I will take the beat back, and exit!
However, before I saunter away like I own the joint, well I guess I do… ahem, Marissa Hyatt is the blogger, and you can find her Definition of a Hipster post… HERE!
One more thing, one has posted on this subject before, in a Christian context, which you can find… HERE!
