Atheist websites hit by mutating cyber meme

Australian atheists are under attack, with the websites of both the Atheist Foundation of Australia and the Global Atheist Convention knocked offline in a major cyber attack yesterday afternoon.
The “distributed denial of service” attacks flooded the websites with traffic, forcing them offline about 5.20pm yesterday.
As of this morning, the foundation had still not been able to restore the websites.
The attacks may be related to the Global Atheist Convention, which is being held in Melbourne in March next year. Speakers include Richard Dawkins, author of The God Delusion and comedy writer Catherine Deveny.
Christian News New Zealand in no way endorses hacking of websites, IF that is really what happened. But is it? A reader writes:
- Why does there have to be a designer/culprit behind this event? It seems like this could simply be the result of undirected, random, chance.
- It seems very likely that this is a simple case of “Internet-natural selection.” Obviously the strong have successfully killed off the weak. Rather than attempting to revive these weak websites, their demise should be applauded as progress!
- Is there some standard of right & wrong that makes a cyber attack like this “wrong?” If so, where does such a standard come from?
Some good points made by the reader. I think that we can safely say that whatever the cause was for the websites going down, they were really only dancing to their DNA, their program code compiled and then defiled, evolved and dissolved.
Millions of computers have been running for millions of computer-years, making it a certainty that given enough time and enough Dawkinsian faith, we could be sure that the equilibruim would be punctuated with an explosion of new information. We just need enough faith to believe that the seemingly impossible can happen, and will happen, and if not in this universe, then in a parallel universe far far away.

There were actually 2 websites affected by thie DDoS attack. So an attack it was indeed. The 2 sites were Atheist Foundation and Atheist Convention websites.
The Atheist Foundation of Australia have been promoting the Atheist Convention scheduled for March next year. Ticket sales have exceeded all expectations with over 1000 tickets sold within 3 weeks. All Gold Pass tickets have sold out.
By the way. Those 3 points were not GOOD points at all. They use infantile logic and are clearly phrased to titillate the ignorant.
Thanks 4 the info Peter. If I was able, I would come to the conference too. Sounds like a lot of fun.
Hey Peter — life is short, and for the atheist ultimately meaningless — so can I suggest that you just relax and enjoy the humor (well, humor is ultimately just matter in motion, and so would your enjoyment of it be… ) re the 3 points
Attacking someone’s website because you do not agree with their views? How very unchristian. Can someone explain to me why religious people are so intolerant of others who don’t share the same beliefs.
Can you provide such an example of intolerance Jon? Specifix please…
Are you referring to this Jon:

Or perhaps this one Jon?
http://www.evolutionnews.org/2009/10/who_are_the_real_proponents_of.html
Yes indeed Jon, it would be very un Christian if it were established that the perpetrators of the hack were Christian. But would it be unatheistic?
Incidentally, claiming that “religious” people are intolerant of those who have different beliefs is in itself an intolerant statement. ie self defeating.
Relativism in work.
I think it would be ignorant to assume the perpetrators were not Christian. It is the work of religious fanaticism, performed by deluded people who have been brainwashed by the myth of God.
“Is there some standard of right & wrong that makes a cyber attack like this “wrong?” If so, where does such a standard come from?”
That is an epic fail. Maybe your parents didn’t teach you right and wrong? Most people get it.
You grow lovely flowers that I step on purposely and ruin – WRONG.
I help you in the garden and comment on you gardening skills – RIGHT.
Are you getting it now? Destroying peoples creations because you don’t like what they are saying is aggressive and mind shrinking behavior.
Dawkins of course would demand evidence — so where is yours?
Belinda, do you believe that we are just evolved animals? Do you believe that animals are not more that highly complex arrangements of atoms and molecules? Given the simple answers to these questions, where then does morality come from?
My belief is that our morality is based solely on our need to survive. Derived by our conscience and is a learned behaviour and absolutely nothing to do with a divine plan.
A question for you:
How do you explain someone who claims they are a true believer in god and lives by the bible and at the same time are involved in illegal and or immoral behaviour?
At what point is it o.k to make your own rules?
Belinda..you completely misses the irony: Such actions would be UnChristian as it is inconsistent with Christ. (Still await proof that it was by the way)
However it would no be inconsistent with atheistic individuals who are moral parasites.
Sorry Whyman, for some reason my comment hasn’t been posted so I refuse to continue a debate when the playing field is not even. With missing comments it would not be an honest representation of my opinions. I guess that could be construed as inconsistent as christ as well?

Thus Hilter’s survival of the fittest is justified. You of course cannot complain about the USA invading Iraq as that is just more BIG guy beating up small guy. Just like Tom cats, some men feel the need to rape, others to murder. At least you are consistent with your darwinian worldview!

They are hypocrites, as all us Christians are to some extent. That is why we need the grace of God because we cannot make it on our own merits.
