I would go and view him talking about molinism except that, after reading up about it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molinism)
it seems to be ridiculously nonsensical obfuscatory sleight of hand avoidance of the contradiction of omniscience vs. free will. It solves NOTHING!

  • admin said:

    Contradiction, or paradox?

  • simon said:

If ‘paradox’ is only an apparent contradition then the difference is irrelevant since we are dealing with a putative scenario.

Can anyone tell me where and what time the 2 Auckland debates are happening on Monday, June 16? Are the debates open to the public or are tickets for sale perhaps?
    Thanks!

  • admin said:

Hi Emile. As far as I know they are free and open to all. We are trying to get more info. Keep an eye on this website for updates :-)

LOL there seems to be a few contradictory dates going on with the flyer and elsewhere. The flyer says Thursday June 19. On this thread as well it says the 19th.

On the pdf flyer that you have posted on the “William Lane Craig Composite Poster” thread it says Tuesday the 17th. On the Matt and Madeleine Flannagan blog it says Tuesday the 17th as well. If someone could clear up the confusion of whether it’s on Tuesday (17th) or Thursday (19th) that would be great (not so much for me, but for the people these flyers will be advertised to). Thanks

Oh and I’m referring to the debate between Craig and Cooke if you’re wondering what I’m talking about.

  • admin said:

Thanks. Will look into these asap.

Ok nevermind. I was under the impression that there was only ONE debate between Craig and Cooke. Apparently there are two between them on Tuesday and Thursday on the same topic (which is a little unusual for Craig to do but cool anyways). Hey if one of them loses the debate on the one day, they can make up for it on the next day :)

I’d love to be able to make it up to one of the North Island events (I’m in Dunedin). What a pity the trip couldn’t be longer. There was some demand down here, but the decision was made to fit in the smaller centres up North, rather than the two major centres down South.

And Simon, even if Molinism isn’t true, it’s hardly contradictory. I suspect taking a *slightly* longer time to form an opinion might be a wise move. Wikipedia is helpful of course, but reading one wiki article is not a substitute for becoming familiar with a position.

“Because God has middle knowledge, He knows what an agent will freely do in a particular situation. So, agent A, when placed in circumstance C, will freely choose option X over option Y. Thus, if God wanted to accomplish X, all God would do is, using his middle knowledge, actualize the world in which A was placed in C, and A would freely choose X. God retains an element of providence without nullifying A’s choice and God’s purpose (the actualization of X) is fulfilled.” -Wikipedia

(I am probably going to hear him next tuesday) The above, which is at the core of the omniscience vs. free will problem, simply restates that God knows what choice I’m going to make. It merely obfuscates it by throwing in situation C’s. There is no solution here: when someone knows what choice someone else will make, they didn’t really have a choice. Period.

Does anyone know where the Wellington evening lecture is being held, i can’t find any information on it anywhere – even Bill Craigs staff don’t know.

  • simon said:

Ramsey House, 8 Kelburn Parade(Anglican Chaplancy VUW) next Tuesday (10 June), at 12 noon.

That’s the info I’ve been given.

  • Todd said:

I hear the evening lecture on Tuesday is to be at Central Baptist Church in Boulcott St. I don’t know information on this was so late getting out.

Todd, the organization in Wellington is, let’s say, rather poor. Let us know how the meeting went if you make it there.

Todd. Yes he is speaking at Central Baptist tonight (Wed). As told to us on Tue midday.
